Competitors in the sport of sailing are governed by a body of rules that they are expected to follow and enforce. A fundamental principle of sportsmanship is that when competitors break a rule they will promptly take a penalty, which may be to retire.

This link has a searchable Rule Book and is a great resource for all those involved in sailboat racing.

1. This is one of the best Rules Quiz sites I've seen (Thanks to Jess). It looks a little primitive but don't let that fool you; it really delivers.

It's in a lot of languages so don't forget to start by selecting the British Flag (for English). Let me know what you think and If you find a better Rules Quiz site let please let me know too. Click the above to get started on the Quiz.

2. Still reading this huh. Well then you're ready for a QUICK POP QUIZ (True or False)
-The Rules prevent collisions and allow for fair racing.
-Respect for the rules and respect for our competitors amounts to the same thing.
-Champions know the rules and can win without breaking them.
-A Rules Quiz is a great way to keep sharp on the rules.
-They shudda stopped with Mast Abeam.

Answers: all true (grin) and if you answered false to more than one of these you get to start your next race early.

3. If you got this far it's time to do some racing; don't want to spend too much time on the rules. right. (grin)
Hope all this helps. If it does then let me know the next time we're racing by saying "Protest 445" and smile (or grin)...thanx, Don.
